Good Sports!

🎯 1. Vocabulary: Sports and Activities

Let’s learn some fun words about sports and activities we can do indoors or outdoors!

English Spanish
swim         nadar
run         correr
climb                         escalar
dance         bailar
fish         pescar
skate         patinar
sail         navegar
skip                         saltar a la comba
play football         jugar al fútbol
go cycling         montar en bici
go skateboarding         hacer skate




🎵 Example:

  • I love to dance! 💃 → ¡Me encanta bailar!

  • We go swimming on Saturdays. 🏊‍♀️ → Vamos a nadar los sábados.


🛹 2. Urban Sports

Urban sports are activities that you can do in the city 🏙️, often in the street, park or skatepark.

Examples:

  • Skateboarding 🛹

  • Parkour 🤸‍♂️

  • BMX 🚴‍♀️

  • Roller skating ⛸️

  • Street dance 💃

🗣️ Say it!
➡️ I like skateboarding in the park.
➡️ My brother does parkour in the city.

🎨 Activity:
👉 Draw your favourite urban sport and write:

This is me. I am ________-ing!
(e.g. This is me. I am climbing!)


🏋️ 3. At the Sports Centre

A sports centre is a place where you can do sports. 🏊‍♂️🏀🏸

🧭 Vocabulary:

  • swimming pool → piscina

  • gym → gimnasio

  • tennis court → pista de tenis

  • football pitch → campo de fútbol

  • climbing wall → muro de escalada

🗣️ Examples:

  • There is a swimming pool where you can swim.
    → Hay una piscina donde puedes nadar.

  • This is the gym where I learn to dance.
    → Este es el gimnasio donde aprendo a bailar.

🎲 Activity:
“Find the Place!”
Read and guess:

  1. It’s a place where you can play tennis 🎾 → (Tennis court)

  2. It’s a place where you can swim 🏊‍♂️ → (Swimming pool)

  3. It’s a place where you can climb 🧗 → (Climbing wall)


💡 4. Grammar: Learn to do something

We use learn to + verb to talk about things we start doing or practising.

🗣️ Examples:

  • I am learning to swim. → Estoy aprendiendo a nadar.

  • We learn to dance at school. → Aprendemos a bailar en el colegio.

  • He is learning to ride a bike. → Está aprendiendo a montar en bici.

🎯 Mini game:
Complete with “learn to…”

  1. I want to ________ (sail).

  2. She is ________ (play football).

  3. We ________ (dance) in the gym.

Answers:

  1. learn to sail

  2. learning to play football

  3. learn to dance


5. Adverbs of Manner

We use adverbs of manner to say how we do something.
They usually end in -ly.

Adverb         Meaning
quickly         rápidamente
slowly         despacio
badly         mal
carefully         con cuidado
well         bien

🗣️ Examples:

  • He runs quickly. → Corre rápido.

  • She dances beautifully. → Baila muy bien.

  • They climb carefully. → Escalan con cuidado.

  2. Walk slowly... 🐢

  3. Dance badly! 😂

  4. Jump carefully! 🤸‍♀️
    → Practise the adverbs while moving!

Make 3 sentences using:

💬 Example:
